Symbiotic interconnections between (human) life and environments serve, ‘within this organism’, as a metaphor for societies and conviviality. Invisible and overlooked systems and processes are brought to light; new perspectives on real natural phenomena emerge. The artefacts, which bridge the gap between humans, craftsmanship and fermented materials, come together in what Donna Haraway describes as a ‘material-semiotic knot’.

 

The lines of connection and chains of association between the ‘objects’ in this assemblage are accorded a significance comparable to that of the objects themselves. They form a network that symbolises interdependence in the world. In doing so, they narrate a journey of searching for, finding and gathering stories along these lines. In the interplay of control and cooperation, transformation and passivation, the inherent agency of the materials is explored and translated into aesthetic artefacts. Within the network of being, the artefacts on display emerge, telling of specific actors and coexistence.​
